Telegraph Investigation Pitch

Game Name:

Brave Courier

Target Experience:

“Jason Bourne meets Road Rash”

Gameplay Concept:

You play as a messenger fending off marauders while surfing atop your hoverboard.

Finding the Fun:

Satisfying drifting of hoverboard in both mechanical implications (predictable trajectories for learnable timing) and polish feedback (tilting and drifting like a Wipeout anti-gravity jet vehicle).

Exploring and combining aspects of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II (scrolling street skateboard melee), Punch-Out!! / Demon’s Souls (AI telegraphs attacks that are otherwise too quick for reaction), Double Dragon (grapple lock for mistimed attacks), and pinball / Links: The Challenge of Golf (double tap or press-release in timespan too tight for perception to factor in except as reflective evaluation).

In general this game is serving as a platform for investigation into various types of “twitch” gameplay that occur too rapidly for the involvement of conscious decision making, in order to better understand similar gameplay elements prominent in pinball, head-to-head or beat’em up fighting games, and many other late-1970’s to mid-1980’s coin-op videogames.
