[A1] Bastion

Introduction
Bastion is an 3rd person 2D isometric action video game produced by Supergiant Games. You get to control a hero named “the Kid” as he explores through a beautiful environment and fights against plethora of enemy creatures. This game is featured in numerous platforms.

Real-Time Control
Game Mechanics includes:
Moving
Attacking
Jumping
Rolling
Blocking

Moving is very smooth and responsive. The movement control is simple and utilizes the natural mapping to the thumbstick. However, the jumping and rolling action as a slight moment were you immediate control. This is remedied by the continuous animation of the character. Combined with moving or in a stationary position, attacking and blocking requires high precision and that may feel “dull” depending on player’s reaction time.

Spatial Simulation
As you explore the world, the environment is made in front of you with rising blocks which gives you a great sense of exploration. However, it’s hard to tell which objects are destructible and not as the use of color and style blends all those together. Also, no sound or visual cues when the hero collies with the destructible and indestructible objects. However, it doesn’t really pull you out of the experience.

Polish
Polish effects in Bastion includes sounds, blinking of characters to indicate damage has been dealt, destructible objects, rising platforms and great animation. One distinctive and affective sound effect is its excellent frequent narrations during game play. It keeps you immersed in the world while no action other than moving is taking place.

Conclusion
All in all, Bastion has a great game feel and provides an highly immersive gameplay experience.
