I also really like the mechanic of transitioning the difficulty, the fog makes the game challenging and the switch to the fog free one makes it easier. That’s a really nice thought, it makes the game more sensitive to actions you’ve already performed which s something I really enjoy.
To make the mechanic more solid, here’s one thing I can suggest, instead of a simple click, have the player aim a gun or something to burn down boxes, make it have limited ammo, that way you cant just spam clicks at the start of the game burn off all the boxes.

Made me feel like I was at the wrong end of a shooting range :P:P. Very nice ambient effects and sound. For some reason though I was having trouble burning up the boxes. Sometimes the boxes would not burn. Other than that I felt that the pace of the game became very slow at times as I would just wait around doing nothing while the box(s) burned out of my way.

The effects of the burning obstacles are nice. I like the fog as it prevents the player from easily positioning themselves to avoid the projectiles, so it is more reactionary. The shield and shrinking are two very interesting mechanics and fun to experiment with. I like the burning of the obstacles, but unlike the shield and shrink mechanic it seems a bit unnatural to me. As in, the shield and shrink seem like player powers where the obstacle burning seems out of place like some other force is doing it. I think the game is simple yet effective, and difficult to master, which is good in my opinion. The background sound and effects are nice, as is the change of scenery to help the struggling player.

It is simple enough that it could entice the player for a few minutes. I also like that there are master-able elements such as knowing when is a smart time to put up your shield. The look of the fire when burning the flame was also pretty cool.

I feel like the game is lacking some type of theme that could draw the feel together. For example, it the boxes can burn then the texture of them could be wood. I see that the texture of the wall is brick so that could indicate it can not burn. I would prefer the image of the bricks to not be stretched out, however, so it is clear what they are. Maybe the mouse could have an icon of a match too since the mouse controls the burning of the cubes. If you were to add these elements, the background music you have now may be too cutesy.

Moving the text to the edges of the screen would also help make the player feel like they are in the screen of the game.

I like the creative change in scene and being able to shrink and use shields โ€“ different things to indicate performance and to help the avatar move along. It was a little difficult to get use to the controls before proceeding โ€“ maybe if there was a gradual increase in obstacles and bullets as the avatar moved through the scene. It was a little difficult to get into the game since the avatar kept getting shot from the very start, and the end goal and location is a little unclear. Maybe if it were sunny, or had a bunch of trees, it would make it more obvious where the avatar is going and why.

what are some specific things that could be improved, and how might they be accomplished?
do the two motions feel like they meet the assigned โ€œfeelโ€?
do the interaction aspects help create game feel (controls, avatar movement and how it interacts with the world, polish effects used directly to emphasize these interactions)
are the other parts of the prototype (textures, sounds, etc) helping or hurting?

I really like the idea and the effect of having a shield to protect the avatar. It is good that the avatar doesn’t move when I use the shield. That adds to the challenge of the game. The timed shrink is also great. The music and sound effects go well with the game play. I would say remove or limit the jump feature so the player will have to clear the path. I figured, if I jumped with some good initial velocity I could jump over the bullets and the blocks and get to the end. You could increase the height of the bullet shots or limit the jumping height of the character. Also, if I stick to the extreme left, there is no bullet coming at me, so I only need to melt the blocks. That can be randomized to make it difficult and make the player use the shield to it’s full potential. Otherwise, it is really well thought of and executed.
