I do think the player needs a bit more control. The motions of the ship seem very monotonous, maybe adding some rolls, tilts, or animations would help with that, but more importantly, I think the player should have more movement options like switching between 2d and 3d modes at will, or speeding up/slowing down. Definitely make that powerup! But if you do, make sure that the blocks being destroyed have generous effects and polish.

Before I even started moving around, I ran into a block and I was dead. Then, when I tried to hit ‘R’, the game didn’t properly restart, which made me refresh the game on my browser. I had a similar kind of issue with the 2D version, which went green after I died. Again, I don’t know what happened, but if this occurs on my browser, it’s bound to occur of others.

As for the game, I liked the concept. I was a big fan of Cube Runner, which is a very similar game without movement along the Y-axis. That game was very fun because it got progressively harder and there was a high score element. I feel like if you had those interactions, that would definitely enhance the gaming experience whilst playing your game. I liked the model of the ship, but I think the game could have used more time overall, in the polish, texture, and implementation categories. Good start, though!

The objective is pretty simple and intuitive, and the controls are very simple. The music was nice, the graphics were simple but effective, so I think future development time for this game should be spent mainly on improving the feel of playing the game. Take the controls as an example, I think Star Fox controls or flight controls that feel more aerodynamic would really make this prototype shine. Also, give the crashes some particle effect! That would be awesome! Develop that powerup idea you mentioned, that’s a great opportunity to add extra game feel. I like the concept. Nice job!

The game music is “energetic” but also relentless to call it upbeat. Dying while the music plays on is actually kind of frustrating, since it continues while I have to restart. Fast adjustable motion is a smart approach to conveying the agile (“quick feet”) feel, but providing the user an option to rotate while moving both on ground and in air would be cool to fit between the blocks in angular or vertical direction so that you’re darting all over the place. Also, the blocks are spaced far enough apart that the game is pretty easy to play. Perhaps a better balance between ability level and challenge by gradually decreasing the gaps between the blocks as the user progresses towards completing the game? By the way, did you make the 3D model of space ship? If so, that’s awesome! Overall, good work.
