I’ll reiterate the things I said here. The dark atmosphere and sounds are great at promoting the atmosphere you want.

As everyone else has said, adding in an animation for both your and the zombies’ attacks would make the game much more fun to play. Although you can hear how fast your attacks are by the sound that plays, a visual animation would be much more effective. Overall, great prototype idea.

They are what I would expect and feel good. The main problem with the game is the lack of animations. I cannot tell how my attack works or how the enemies’ attacks work, so it is difficult to know how to play or if I am in danger of being hit. I think that fixing this would make the biggest difference and would improve the game a lot.

Using health levels for the player and enemies is nice, and I like how the enemies start to get aggressive with you if you get close enough. This is a game that could be improved so much by adding animation for the attacks. It would give you a much better idea of how far you can attack. The sounds are really nice too, I like how you can hear the subtle impact when you do strike successfully, the growl of the enemies, and the footsteps of the player. The speed feels about right, but it’d be cool if the player could jump as well.

However, I think the visual aspect of the actions could be improved. Maybe you could add a slash animation across the screen to signify the player hitting the enemy or getting hit by the enemy. There is definitely a nimble feel to the character with the speed and the sound of footsteps helping with conveying that. All of the sound helps convey the game feel but now maybe you can place more emphasis on the textures and visual aspect.

The general concept is appealing. Nobody is really doing a fighting/action game, especially with melee combat, so it’s nice to play one.

“what are some specific things that could be improved, and how might they be accomplished?”

The game is lacking general “production” polish as well as ways to emphasize interactions. Pretty up the characters, give us a physical sword/hammer, and make it where the bad guys spurt out blood particles when we whack them and then the polish is there.

“do the two motions feel like they meet the assigned “feel”?”

(Note that we didn’t need two motions for this assignment, so I’ll ignore that part.) The music and general concept of the game has you “on edge” – you don’t want to die or be attacked! I’d say the brisk movement of the avatar matches how briskly I’d want to move if being attacked – so I would say that matches!

“do the interaction aspects help create game feel (controls, avatar movement and how it interacts with the world, polish effects used directly to emphasize these interactions)”

In the second question I talked about that, largely. The game is lacking ways to emphasize interactions right now, so I spose the answer is no. Once they are in there, I think the game will be cool, though.

“are the other parts of the prototype (textures, sounds, etc) helping or hurting?”

Sound is appropriate – kind of an intense track – definitely helping. The grass texture is appealing to me – it says to me “outdoors”… so I’m outdoors surrounded by zombies/bad guys. Adds to the intensity I feel. Obviously, you could add more textures, but the ones currently there I’d say, ARE helping.

The game feel is intense since the enemy will constantly attack you. Also collision could be improved and visible weapon will be great. The general concept is appealing, just need more time to finish it. 10/10
