Push moe is struggling to complete his task of mowing the yard. And the music / sky emphasizes this. Power moe has no problems whatsoever, and this is emphasized by the different mower model, sky, and upbeat music. The speed and quickness of turning also helps to create this effect. You might consider adding some sort of additional movement behavior to push moe to add to the scared factor. Maybe a slight shake of the mower model. All in all great work.

Technical note: There are so many grass blades that the FPS dropped significantly when all are on screen on my laptop. Might want to optimize that somehow (turn off shadows, for one!).

There’s something very satisfying about being able to mow grass in a video game. I don’t know what it is that makes it fun, but I liked it!

For the weak/scared lawn mower, I definitely understood the feeling of weakness. The push mower avatar combined with the slow and somewhat unresponsive movements definitely conveyed the feeling of weakness, especially when compared to the other lawn mower. I have some trouble trying to see how the push mower conveys it being scared. However, I’ve never believed that a lawn mower could be scared, but I digress. I think it would be good if you could find a way to express that the lawn mower is scared (if that’s possible). I really enjoyed the music played in the background during this mode (listening to it while typing this up is really relaxing).

As for the strong/agressive lawn mower, I picked up both feelings almost immediately. After mowing with a the push mower, switching over to the powered lawn mower was a breath of fresh air. It was fast, cut grass very quickly and was more intense. It was fun to play as the aggressive lawn mower.

Overall, I think the game was really fun and unique.

Starting off with the scared/weak feeling, there is no feeling of scared in the Push Moe that I can quickly discern. The weak feeling can only be really felt in the movement and how little it cuts, and without the contrast between scared/weak and aggressive/strong, I may have not felt it at all. The background and the audio track don’t add terribly much, but I will give you that the audio clip for cutting the grass did. All in all, not a bad go at this feeling, just needs a little more scared and we’re good to go. Ninebolt is right about how it’s hard to create a scared feeling in an inanimate object. Maybe dreamy or joyful would have been better.

With the aggressive/strong feeling, I like how the feeling of aggression and strength can be conveyed by the movement alone. With other submissions that use aggressive as a feeling, I felt that it was more created by the polish and less on the feeling of the character. The audio track and clip used when mowing just adds to the aggressive feeling of the character. It’s perfect and there’s really nothing I can suggest to make it better.

Congratulations on that.

As I believe ninefold touched on, Push Moe wasn’t so much scary as sad and downbeat, though the feeling of weakness was handled well. He’s rather slow, and he understandably looks like a push mower, which compared to Power Moe makes him comparatively weak. He feels small and weak, with all the implications that holds, including taking more effort to mow. The sky and general atmosphere is dark, but again, it takes a more sad tone than a scary one. One thing that I feel hurt more than it helped was the lagging camera – to be perfectly honest that caused more irritation than it conveyed context, and didn’t really feel like it fit with the already slow turning.

Power Moe was what actually struck me as rather fun for a short while. The music, the feeling of speed and acceleration, and his powerful appearance in comparison to Push Moe was a sharp, contrast and a surprising rush. You certainly nailed the feeling of strength and aggression, with and without polish. The only major issue was the grass clipping sound – It may have just been on my end, but the sound plays so frequently that it’s an incomprehensible blare in my speakers. I can’t find much negative to say about the feel here.

I had a few issues with the game that I can only assume were unintended glitches, though. The grass clipping sound frequency on Power Moe, and on collisions with walls, were two such issues. Another is that the camera seems to lean considerably further to the right then turning than it does to the left on both modes, which may have exacerbated the awkwardness of the effect with Push Moe. Furthermore, the jumping sort of struck me as pointless, despite conveying the right feelings of weight, though this is more of a personal opinion. Again, in terms of feel, Power Moe was spot on, but Push Moe felt more sad than scared despite nailing the feeling of weakness and smallness. This was unexpected and amusing, and in conclusion I can only congratulate you again despite the flaws.

I never thought someone would implement the game with lawnmowers, but the game is awesome.

I really like Power Moe. You did a great job conveying the feelings of aggressiveness and strength. One thing I really liked is the sound effect of Power Moe as he goes over the grass. The animation of central cylinder is pretty great as well. Combining that with the speed and how he can only do wide turns, I think you did a great job with this scene. The music is a plus, it does a good job strengthening the message but I can still get the same game feel without it.

Push Moe is great, as well. I like how he is slower and has difficulty cutting the grass. I like how when Push Moe gets to the grass, this speed slows down to show that he is struggling. Overall, I think you implemented the weak feeling very well. I had a bit of difficulty getting the scared feeling from Push Moe. The stuttering effect when you start moving Push Moe added more to the weak feeling than it did to the scared feeling (I think you were going for hesitation with the stuttering, but let me know if I’m wrong.) Also, the dark, cloudy sky made the scene seem more sad than scared. However, I imagine it’s pretty difficult to attach the feeling of fear to an inanimate object, like a lawnmower.

All in all, great job!
