Both modes also had very different soundtracks to give them unique feels.

My biggest concern is that the first mode does not convey aggressiveness to me. Despite the tense ambient background noise, the character moves too gracefully. Perhaps some camera shake on the landing might give some weight/aggression to the character.

Even though there were no special textures, the trail definitely made each character seem very speedy, akin to motion lines in drawings. The second mode’s nyan-cat rainbow trail was quite hilarious combined with the soundtrack. Having the ability to jump in this mode would further improve the joyfulness of the scene.

The movement does a good job of giving a sliding effect when you move around and come to stops. However I think it only really has a Nimble aspect to it and not so much Aggressive.

The second mode is with the rainbow tail is a lot of fun. It’s cool to be able to see the trail that you’re making and draw shapes and patterns with it. I too didn’t like that the joyful mode doesn’t have the option to jump. It seems like that would be an ability for a character that is joyful in feel.

The best part is just being able to draw with it. I also like the way the nimble character moves. It is interesting because you made the nimble mode’s movement more restricted than your other mode which is different from what I have seen other people do, but it works because the character feels more smooth and natural. I don’t like how the joyful mode does not have a jump action. I would like to be able to go everywhere I could go in the other mode, except while drawing rainbows. I don’t think the nimble mode feels aggressive, but I think the other modes convey their feel well.

The rainbow trail renderer and catchy background music in the joyful/strong mode is awesome. I also like how your avatar respawns after falling off the map.

Possible Improvements:

I think drawing with the rainbow trail has potential, but it would be useful to have controls to toggle the trail on and off and to clear it. Additional sound effects could be added for jumping, and jumping functionality could be added to joyful mode while mapping the camera change to another key.

Game Feel Behaviors:

In nimble/aggressive mode, the avatar succeeds in feeling nimble and lightweight, but does not show clear signs of aggression. The joyful feel is successfully met, but I think that is a product of polish more than differing character movement. I’d be interested to know what you were planning on implementing to assist in conveying the strong behavior.

Controls/Movement, Interactions and Polish:

I really like the controls and movement in nimble mode. Turning and gliding feels on point. Objects could be added to the world to interact with in order to help with aggressive and strong feels.

Textures, Sound, Etc. :

The textures and sounds are clearly helping the prototype. The “in the zone” background sound is a cool idea for the nimble mode. The rainbow trail and upbeat background music also help achieve a joyful feel.

For the first mode, the ice skater, the nimbleness in the jumping and slight sliding is really good, and really helps show it. My only problem with it is that I don’t really feel aggressiveness from it. I just think fast, not really aggressive.

The second mode is good as well. I can totally feel the joyfulness of it from the rainbow tail. However, I don’t feel the strength of it. Perhaps adding some blocks or targets to hit would make that easier to feel, if you can interact with them in that mode.

Other than that, the lighting and choice of colors instead of textures make me feel positive when I look at this. I really like it. They help with the overall feel to me.
