The jump I think helps to show the joyful feeling.

Feel 2: The music, slower movement and smaller jump definitely help to give the avatar a scared and weak feel. I feel like the jump sound hurts this feeling a little bit, though. I also feel the avatar should have less effect on the boxes here.

Overall they do give the appropriate feel.

The fact that it is able to jump/ double jump high conveys the lightness of joyfulness but, it seems a little less. Some animation on the way it walked or a happy sound/ visual effect on collision would have enhanced the game feel. The music is great gets the two feelings across. I still feel animation would be the best to convey all of that when the atmospheric effects are turned off. Mode 2 feels scary and dreamy since it walks slowly. Great sound effects. However, the character feels spooky to me rather than it being scared itself. Some sound effects when it collided with a box and things like it backing up a bit would be good. I like that you reduced the impact of collision on the box suggesting that it is now weak. The jump gets lower and walk gets slower which signifies a good amount of weakness, but adds more to the stealthiness or spookiness. Dreamy and weak is what I would shoot for.

Maybe if it had a bump rather than a buzz sound (if that makes sense) so it sounds more like items are being kicked rather than blocking the avatar. I’m not sure about the joyful – maybe if there was some happy dance when the avatar pushes boxes or jumps?

Feel 2: The slow movement and low jump definitely gives the impression of being weak and scared. Perhaps when it collides with boxes, the boxes are scooted rather than slightly thrown, to make it seem like the avatar is hiding behind them. The jump might be a little more “scared” if the avatar crouched down after jumping.

It really enforces the feel for joyful and scared. The double jump also reinforces the feeling of joyful bounciness.
I really did feel that the interaction with boxes could be improved a bit in the weak scared mode. Especially the collision music could be changed. Instead of having the box pushed slightly by the avatar, you could have the avatar moved back by a few paces when he collided with the box.
I thought the interactions did communicate the required game feel except for the complaint regarding the interaction with boxes in the weak/scared mode.

Really cool that you managed to do it without over complicating it too much!
The only thing that could have made it even better had you put a different jump sound in the scared mode, something like a scared startle or scream.
