I like the effort put into making the two unique walking styles in each mode. Giving the character the ability to climb a tree was also entertaining.

More could be done to distinguish the two modes. after pressing the mode-swap key, there’s no instantaneous feedback that the mode has changed. Lighting, textures, background sounds, or character animation changes could all help to show a difference between the modes. The arbitrary borders of the map are somewhat confusing as well as there is nothing to tell you they are there.

The tree climbing mechanic definitely contributed to the game feel of making the second character feel nimble. One small bug is that the character is almost too nimble in that they can climb above where the tree ends.

It’s pretty fun to just run around that smash into things when you’re in that mode.

Some improvements that would help the game are if there were sounds such as for collisions, or even a sound to play while galloping. Some background music would be good too for the game. Another thing is to maybe polish up the collisions that happen. A couple times the creature started clipping through the tree when I collided with it.

The aggressive mode does a good job of meeting the aggressive aspect of the character, however the second mode doesn’t really convey of feeling of being nimble. One way to help this would be to add some small animations on the character for when it’s moving or even just sitting still that convey that state of aggressiveness or nimbleness.

As mentioned above also, the walls should be opaque so the player can know when they’re leaving the game area and it doesn’t just seem like the character can’t move past a certain spot for no reason.

It feels nice to interact with the trees in general, and the aggressive ability to shake them makes it feel even better. Jumping onto the trees as nimble feels nice as well. The amount of feedback from jumping is really exciting: the creature moves fast, attaches to trees quickly, etc. I like the idea behind the different running motions of the characters, but perhaps it can be more emphasized. Specifically, I feel like the aggressive mode could ramp up to a higher maximum speed, and the nimble mode could have a faster constant speed.

I’m having a hard time distinguishing the differences in jumping between the two modes. Both of the modes seem to jump pretty high and both jump quite fast, though the jump definitely feels both aggressive and nimble, so perhaps it is best to view this as a shared attribute between the two modes.

I like the atmosphere created by the setting and the sounds, but I’m not sure if they contribute to the assigned feels in any other way than through the tree-based mechanics. Since your feel is primarily based on the interactions, perhaps some sound effects that are based on the behavior of the character would add to the effect. An example would be stomping sounds for the aggressive, and a slamming sound for hitting the tree; then the nimble might have a less harsh walking/running sound. You could also add sounds for jumping and landing.

I really like the galloping, and I think it was a smart choice for the aggressive mode.

Possible Improvements:

Unfortunately, I got stuck in the trees a few times and also fell through the ground. I would also consider using solid walls, rather than transparent, because at first it was confusing why the avatar stopped moving.

Game Feel Behaviors:

I think the avatar successfully shows his aggressiveness through galloping. Also, the ability to climb trees is good choice for nimble mode.

Controls/Movement, Interactions and Polish:

I would consider not hard-coding the input keys, because some users might prefer to use the arrow keys rather than WASD. I like the concept of interacting with the trees in nimble mode by climbing them, but I couldn’t get it to work consistently. Sound effects could be included for jumping and galloping to add more polish.

Textures, Sound, Etc. :

The sounds and textures used in the prototype are helpful. I like the background sounds, and the fact that you recorded them yourself.

I can totally feel the aggressive mood when you run in to the trees, given how they bounce you off and shake. And I like your description of nimble. Being able to climb trees is a very good way of showing it.

I will say those, I don’t see or hear tons of polish in the game. Not much changes, in terms of sounds or anything else between the moods. The changing in acceleration is a nice touch!

Over all, I think you just need to add a few lighting changes, maybe some sounds, and you would be good.
