I’m envious of your assess and wonder where you got all of them from. While they don’t do a whole lot to achieve game feel, these polish effects make your game feel complete and a lot more fun to play as you can walk around and even interact with the NPCs.

The strong and aggressive feel is spot on. I like the change in lighting and how your player just feels heavy from the avatar’s motion. The camera shake is also key to achieving this feel. I just would have wished I could interact and possibly knock over the other objects in the scene.

The joyful and nimble feel is good too and is readily apparent from the change in lighting and music. You can tell he’s lighter from the jump height but I find it strange there is still camera shake at all. The polish effects do a good job of conveying this mood.

Overall I think you did a great job on this assignment, with only a few tweaks to make it better.

It conveyed the feeling that the player’s avatar was heavy and strong. The red tint of the light also helped to convey the feeling of aggression. Apart from the red hue, I did not pick up the feeling of aggression that much. Also, after I jumped the first time, the game would continue to play the landing sound and shake the camera every couple of steps. I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

When I was playing as the joyful/nimble character, I immediately noticed the well done background music. I feel that the music help to convey the emotion of joy very well and contrasted nicely with the darker music of the strong/aggressive character. Moving around quickly and being able to jump high also helped to demonstrate the nimbleness of the character.

Overall, you did a good job. If there was anything to improve, it would be to try to better convey the feeling of aggression.

Strong/Aggressive:
The sound effects for the jumping and wall collision are really nice, and the camera shake was implemented very well here as well. The music goes very well with the change in lighting.
I can sense a change from the joyful/nimble behavior (the speed changes, the lighting turns red, the camera shakes more violently), but there may need to be a bit more to show that this is the strong/aggressive behavior. Maybe if there could be a more dramatic change in the avatar’s speed, or have the avatar shake or turn red (either with a texture change or implement a particle effect), or have the player interact with the environment (like knocking over the chairs), it could convey the behavior a bit more.

Joyful/Nimble:
The speed changes and the lighting changes blue too, which I like, but this also needs to show that the avatar is a bit more nimble. You could have the avatar jump higher and not land with a camera shake like the strong one does. Like for the strong one, a more dramatic change in the avatar’s speed could show that the avatar is joyful/nimble.

I absolutely love the scene; you did a great job with all of this!

Strong/agressive:
The jump and camera shake are definitely strong – good job with that.
The slow moving is good in that it meshes with that
The really slow rotating just bothers me because it doesn’t give me a feeling of strong or aggressive
I am not getting a lot of the aggressive feel – perhaps the player needs some other capability besides jumping such as lunging or punching to make him more aggressive
The ability to push around some objects in the environment could help as well
The small jump is good for game feel, but prevents me from actually jumping onto anything

Joyful/nimble:
I can tell you tried for a lighter camera shake, but leaving any camera shake really fights against a feeling of being nimble. I would expect nimble to land gracefully.
Slow rotation speed again is hurting the feeling of nimble. I would expect nimble to be able to make sharper turns more quickly.
I don’t really get the sense of joyful – consider changing the jump noise for a starter

Overall:
Like I said before, great environment, and very impressive use of sound
Good choices of music and use of lighting
I like that there are different noises when I hit different things in the environment
It seems strange that most of the environment is very realistic and then a few things are very abstract, including the avatar and its movements.
You have a great opportunity in your awesome interactions with the world (mostly changes in audio) to make them reflect the game feel. I was disappointed that the reactions were the same in both feels. If the world treats me as strong/aggressive, for example, it adds to the feeling that I am.
There don’t seem to be any game elements (i.e. things to do or rules) – this may have helped with game feel
I was looking forward to a toilet flushing noise, haha!

I really like how the sound effects change as you walk into different sections of the bar/restaurant. The guy asking you to play pool with him and then saying he’ll be there if you change your mind is pretty awesome.

The sound effect the character makes while jumping is great, and really works well with the nimble/joyous scene. However, I don’t think it has much place in the strong and aggressive scene. Maybe if you implemented a deeper sound, like a grunt for that mode’s jump sound, it would help convey strength and aggression more.

On the other hand, I think the camera shake was spot on. I really like how the camera shakes a great deal when you jump as a strong and aggressive person but only very slightly shakes when you are nimble. I would like to know why the strong persona jumps less than the nimble persona. The short hop combined with the large camera shake adds the feeling of heaviness or weight more than it does strength.

One thing I think you could add would be that if the strong and aggressive person walks away from the guy offering to play pool, the pool player says something more negative as opposed to if a joyous person walked away.

Other than that, great game and great scene.

I do not know why it isn’t working for the web player, however I am not going to be able to attempt to fix it as it took a long time just to get blog to properly post my game. Every time I post it, the blog would prompt you to download the unity plugin. When I finally got it to work the only thing I did was added a new line to my blog post… Also, I could not edit post after publishing them once. I could get to the edit screen, but pressing the preview button or the publish button would just bring me to an error page saying I do not have permission and should contact ael.gatech if this is incorrect and that I should have permission…
