The model shapes and the wiggling animations really gave it a meerkat feel. The whimpering animal noises also helped it sound scared. I think the jump mechanics could have been improved, however, because it was difficult for me to judge how far the avatar would travel in the jump. Overall, good job!

Putting an environmental pressure (the jacakal) also helped convey the idea of being scared, however I felt that the meerkat’s movements itself didn’t quite fully give that feel. Furthermore I felt that the platforms didn’t quite connect with the environment, they felt almost as if they were breaking the overall mood by being there. That being said, very good model for your meerkat, just needs a little bit of color.

The Meerkat’s low stance and whimpering sound clearly demonstrates the scared emotion. I also had the aggressive feeling when the Meerkat stood up because the sound almost made it seem like it was trying to threaten the jackal. The experience could be greatly improved if the Meerkat had some animation while running or standing.

The face of the meerkat was quite creepy as well when I jumped backwards in standing mode. The sounds in the game could definitely be improved though, since the constant looping can get annoying. The environment was good in reinforcing the scared feeling as well with the dark lighting and textures.

The different speeds for the meerkat are very effective to show the meerkat’s behavior. The texture of floor and jackal gives a good environment/atmosphere. You could also apply some textures such as wood to the platforms for a better atmosphere. I see that you tried to convey scary feel using two different sounds, but I did not understand what each sound means (Maybe I just don’t know about meerkats that well..).

It would have been nice though if the “alerting” sound had been activated by a button key instead of just constantly looping. I liked the two different movement modes, though I feel more could have been done to make them each seem equally useful. As it was, I just found that the initial mode wasn’t all that useful or interesting to be in, as the crouched mode made me jump farther and move faster.

I also feel that you could have spent a little longer on your sounds. The crouch sound especially just sounded like a hurt dog, which made me feel more sad than like I should be sad. Also, potentially playing the noises occasionally, instead of constantly would have made them seem less aggravating.
