The spin during the jump for the lighter character looked very good, and the larger avatar for the heavier character was fitting. The particle effect that is displayed after the heavy avatar hits the ground fits well, and being able to destroy the level was interesting.

There are a couple things that you might think about changing. First, the control speed when using the light avatar is a little too quick. When running jumping while running at full speed, it seems like you slow down. This makes jumps hard to aim. Having more control while in the air would be nice. It’s hard to get a jump just right when you can’t adjust mid air.

The double jump was a nice touch for the light avatar, but I don’t know if it makes sense to have on the heavy avatar. Also, on both avatars, if you hold down the jump button your will immediately go into your second jump. This is problematic because in most platformers, the amount of time that you hold down the jump button affects how high your jump will be. So, people will often hold down the jump button too long, and accidentally activate their second jump.

Overall, great job!

The mood of the environment was very well conveyed by the graphics and ambient sounds. I thought the conceptualization of the nimble guy as a kung fu boy helped too. The choice to have the heavy dude bash the gates into the ground was neat as well, although I wish it could have been applied to only the platform jumped on. Also, at first, I couldn’t tell the gates were platforms and couldn’t tell why my double jumps sometimes didn’t work for a little while. Watch out for that!

The nimble guy feels pretty nice. The tumbling effect is a fun thing, and I particularly like how it scales with how fast you were moving horizontally before jumping. His acceleration and zip along the ground were also fun to play with. The criticism I would levy on it is on the control of the jump, or rather the lack of control. I think it would be better to allow the user to control the height with a longer/shorter spacebar press and to control the trajectory with the arrow keys. The game loses feel when it takes away control like that.

The heavy guy also feels fun. Having a sense of heavy friction (sold by the dust cloud) and inertia when controlling him on the ground made him feel quite heavy. I would not have expected the jump speed or height to feel as heavy if you told me about it beforehand, but the sound effects really help there. Again, I wish I had more air control, but the low control over horizontal motion makes sense for the heavy feel.

Anyway, great atmosphere and animation!

The movement of the nimble one truly supports the ninja name. The animation while in jump is really good. The idea of bring down the world is really good. The textures and sounds give a nice polish to the game.

For the nimble avatar, I really liked the tumbling effect and the jumping sound effect. One suggestion I would make for that is to balance the jump speed with the ground movement speed. It felt like I was running really quickly and then my jump didn’t carry that momentum.

I really liked the heavy avatar, though. The delayed acceleration, smoke effects, larger avatar, and clunky landing sound really reinforced the heaviness of the avatar. Very clever that the heavy avatar could bring the platforms down as well. Good job!
